Whether you want to just rent some boards or take some lessons, Good People Surf is an excellent option in Zarautz. We really like the camps they organize and how well-equipped their camping area is at the Zarautz campsite.
This is a beautiful 15 km excursion that can be done by leaving the car at the Zumaia train station and taking the train to Deba. Once in Deba, you walk the 15 km along the coast that separate this beautiful town from Zumaia, enjoying its cliffs and flysch. Keep the tides in mind to be able to enjoy the tidal flat.
This excursion starts from the Jaizkibel road and descends to the cliffs along trails that are not always obvious. The Labetxu Valley, or Valley of Colors, allows you to enjoy an authentic natural art museum with sculptures and paintings created by nature, wind, and water. Natural environments should always be cared for and respected, but perhaps this one requires even more attention given the fragility of the sandstone rock. As in museums, it is best not to touch these works of art.
Getting lost among the Txakoli fields and, why not, visiting a winery is a lovely plan where the landscape also holds surprises, such as the imposing cork oaks dotted throughout this coastal area.
Just like the Txakoli route, in the Basque Country we are fortunate to have the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, which produce delicious wines. A great plan is to stroll through these vineyards, enjoy the many dolmens, and visit the wineries that dot the landscape (Labastida, Laguardia, Elciego, Lanciego, Baños de Ebro, etc.).
It is a beautiful place to enjoy spectacular views of the Sierra Salvada and visit the Ayala Valley. We really enjoy eating at the Gezurtegi restaurant in the village of Maroño. Nearby is also the famous excursion to the Salto del Nervión waterfall, for which it is necessary to drive up the Orduña pass.
A saltwater spring that flows in the interior of Álava and has allowed these open-air “salt mines” to be exploited since Roman times.
